Anthrax slots second chance to ‘Worship Music’

U.S. fans are rejoicing as Anthrax has announced a second set of shows in support of their September 2011 album Worship Music.

The new 15 city tour kicks off on Jan. 22 at the Las Vegas House of Blues and wraps up on Feb. 8 at the Best Buy Theatre in New York City. Anthrax tickets can also be had for Jan. 23 at the Anaheim House of Blues, Jan. 24 at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, Jan. 27 at Indianapolis’ Old National Centre, Jan. 28 at Pieres in Fort Wayne, Jan. 29 at Expo Five in Louisville and Jan. 30 at the Orange Peel in Asheville.

February tour dates include Feb. 1 at Tampa’s Green Iguana, Feb. 2 at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, Feb. 3 at Lifestyles Communities Pavilion in Columbus, Feb. 4 at Bogarts in Cincinnati, Feb. 6 at Crocodile Rock in Allentown and Feb. 7 at Rams Head Live in Baltimore.

They will be joined by thrash metal band Testament and supporting band Death Angel.

“The first leg of the tour with Testament and Death Angel was an amazing way to end a great year for Anthrax and it went above and beyond my expectations,” said guitarist Scott Ian in a statement. “Sold out shows, raging crowds and epic war dances! So we figured what better way to start 2012 than to continue this thrash-fest into the new year.”

An open letter from Anthrax’s Scott Ian…

nthrax co-founder Scott Ian is going to be a daddy! He and his wife are just a few months away from the birth of their first child, and Ian is excited, but conflicted. The due date coincides with several European tour dates in early July, including a  few “Big 4″ shows with Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth.

Fortunately, Sepultura’s Andreas Kisser will be filling in for Scott, but he still felt compelled to issue a detailed explanation for this absence. His open letter is posted here in its entirety. Congrats to Scott and his wife on their new parenthood!

“Hello my friends, how are you all? I hope you’re all kicking ass.

I know there’s been a lot of rhetoric out there regarding upcoming Anthrax shows, Big 4 and otherwise.

I’ve been debating on whether or not to make a public statement about this as it really pertains to my personal life and I generally like to keep that personal. Because this is affecting my band life, I feel like you, my friends, deserve to hear from me personally.

I will be playing the Big 4 show April 23 in Indio, CA, as well as the shows in Manila, Bangkok, and Japan that will follow the Indio show.

I won’t be playing the shows scheduled from July 2 - 16 in Europe and the UK. My wife Pearl and I are expecting our first child and she is due literally the day of the Big 4 Sonisphere show in France.

Anthrax Mourns Dio’s Passing

Anthrax’s Joe Belladonna was just one of dozens of metal musicians who paid tribute to passing of the iconic Ronnie James Dio, who died May 16th after a long battle with stomach cancer.

Belladonna posted his comments online, noting his relationship with Dio “was a big inspiration, influence and dear friend of mine. He was a true gentlean and a kindhearted individual. He always would go out of his way to make you feel welcome and important. Without a doubt, he was one of the best, top notch and a class act. I will truly miss him. (Read More…)

Anthrax in the Beginning…

New York City natives, Anthrax is a heavy metal band that formed in 1981.  At a time when thrash metal was beginning to hit the scene, Anthrax was dubbed one of the big 4 alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer.

The band decided on their name after seeing it in a biology book and unanimously agreeing that it sounded sufficiently evil.
